What we do

Outreaches

Once a month, Neighbor Idaho brings donations, food, and a whole lot of love to downtown Boise. We distribute supplies (socks, clothes, hygiene products) based on the seasonal and practical needs. While these products are important, the heart of these outreaches is to connect with these people by having conversations that make them feel loved, seen and supported. We usually like to have around 10-15 volunteers for these outreaches.

Block Parties

Biannually, we partner with some of our favorite local businesses and host block parties in the center of Cooper Court. These are designed to be a place of safety, fun, and community for our unhoused neighbors. We cook delicious food, play music, dance, play games and give out haircuts…all for free of course.This is one of our favorite events of the year! At these two events, we like to have a range of 25-30 volunteers.

Community Involvement

We are passionate about empowering and educating our community to love our homeless community every day, not just once a month. To accomplish this, we will be launching Neighbor Packs (coming very soon) so you can always strike up a conversation with a neighbor, no matter where you are or what resources you have available. Additionally, supporting other organizations is important to us, so please reach out if you would like more information about connecting with our organization or if you need support at your next event!

Our story

Neighbor Idaho is a non-profit based in Boise, ID founded by Daniel Thomas in 2018.

Daniel's experience serving on Skid Row in Los Angeles stirred his heart to advocate for those living on the streets in Boise. He began filling a practical need by handing out water bottles on hot days and reminding those on the streets that they are not forgotten.

As Daniel's vision grew, Neighbor was born. Today, Neighbor's team of volunteers flood the streets of Downtown Boise monthly, bringing toiletries, food, clothing, and other items to those without a house. Neighbor continues to foster genuine relationships with people in their own environment by showing love and support with no strings attached.

Founder

Daniel Thomas

A local Boise native and the only child to a military family, Daniel had the dream for Neighbor in 2015, and put his dream to action in 2018. Daniel comes from a family of giving back, as his father is a public servant and mother and grandmother run a separate non-profit. When not walking the streets of Downtown Boise, you can find Daniel hanging with friends, spending time with family, or watching various sports or Everybody Loves Raymond.

Lindsay Thomas

Originally from San Francisco, Lindsey has been around the houseless for her whole life. She came to Boise in 2016 to attend Boise State and quickly fell in love with everything that Boise is. Linds loves being around people, especially strangers, and wants to make sure that everyone in proximity to her feels loved completely.

Marketing Director

Busayo Apampa

Busayo moved to Idaho from Nigeria and has quickly made it her home away from home. She is an alumni at Boise State University and has a passion for servant leadership. Busayo has volunteered with various organizations around the Treasure Valley and joined Neighbor to spread love to people who get overlooked by society. She loves to cook, enjoys building relationships and getting involved with whatever community she finds herself in.

Creative Director

Kyon Kerr

Born and raised in Boise, Kyon has always had a love for people and our downtown area. As the city grew, so did poverty and the need for low income housing. Using his love for culture with his love for people, he decided to use his creative sense to make graphics, artwork, and cast vision for the future of homelessness in Boise. He believes that we should love and empower people with no strings attached, and is committed to making everyone around him feel like they have a friend. Never stop loving people, no matter what. That is forever.

Our Mission

Neighbor exists to show every man, woman, and child in our community that they are seen and loved. Practically, we do this by helping provide the houseless community with toiletries, food, clothing, and genuine love and support; no strings attached.
